Dr. Lerom finished his Ph. D. in Botany at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. He started his research responsibilities with upland rice germplasm of Palawan, with research funding budget from UNDP-COMPACT, IPGRI, FAO and CHE. He worked on the indigenous and high valued tropical fruits, orchids, banana, and rubber. These projects were implemented in collaboration with other agencies such as NPGRL-IPB, UPLB, DA-MIMAROPA, DA-PRES, and USM among others.
His research on tropical fruits were featured in print and broadcast media. His seedling collections were distributed to farmers during farmers’ fora, an important activity in conserving plant genetic resources.
